Earnestly contending for the faith includes the ministry of reproof, the pointing out of wrong or error. Many Christians assume that to do such is an automatic violation of Jesus’ commandment not to judge (Matthew 7:1). Certainly, we must not take the place of the ultimate judge over people’s lives. We know neither the motives of men’s hearts nor the measures of justice and mercy that God may unfold for them. However, we are responsible before the Lord to discern false prophets. “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15). We are also responsible to expose and warn against such false teaching, just like Jesus did. “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees” (Matthew 16:6).

An increasing number of churches and church leaders are forsaking God’s way of counseling and turning to man’s ways. They are relying more on psychological theories and less on the word of God. They are turning to the “experts” of the world instead of to the family of God.
